Organiser's Comments:
Considering the fairly dismal weather that greeted us on Boxing Day morning and the subsequent reluctance to get out of bed, I was pleased to see around
75 entries on the day. Thank you all for coming! Thanks to Julie Cleary for planning a good course, challenging enough to
ensure a full hour's orienteering was enjoyed by the vast majority; and thanks for Ronan for controlling the event.
Thanks also to Gavin Andrews of SLOW, the computer wizard who made sure the
technical sde of the event went smoothly and for moving with such speed with the results and to Glen for help on the day (especially with the tent) and
with the results . And, of course, to the other LOK people who helped on the day: Anne, Catherine , Greg, Graham and Louise and ex-Lokkies Syeve
Bingham and Helen Errigton for helping fetch in controls, and Nick, Catherine's brother, the mulled wine wizard!
Gratitude must also be extended to Southgate Hockey Club, for the use of their carparking area and to Enfield Council and the Trent Park Rangers for
land use. We hope that this event will now be staged annually. Trent Park is an
ideal location for a good post-Christmas breather.
Happy New Year to you all!
John Hardy LOK.
Planner's Comments
From the positive comments after the event, it was a good idea for LOK to resurrect the idea of holding the Boxing Day Score event, despite the hassle of adding programming controls and bagging maps to the list of things to do on Christmas Eve!
Trent Park is a lovely little area to plan on, but small enough for me to be confident that someone would get all the controls within time - hence the novelty control where extra points could be picked up. There seems to have been some confusion with some competitors believing that there would be balloons for everyone – surely you didn’t think I would make a bonus that easy!
Thanks to the Lokkies who turned out to place controls, run the event and collect controls. We left the car park at 1.30pm, which was pretty good. Also thanks to the 75 or so people who turned up to run making it worthwhile.
We look forward to seeing you all again next year – and the novelty maybe a bit different!
Julie Cleary
Results Team Comments:
I have moved a number of people who were typed into the computer as doing S45 into S60; I am guessing this was due to problems reading the entry forms rather than runners over-running the S45 and going on to treat it as S60. If I got it wrong then please contact Ronan & Julie who will tweak you back into the S45 course.
The Balloon control, shown on the splits as control 255, caused a small confusion to the results software in that people who completed all controls except the Balloon should have received a bonus for being early; this was initially missed but is now included in these results.
Happy New Year!
