About us

What do we do ? - as the name suggests, we are London's orienteering club - we go orienteering, host orienteering events, have social meetings, and between 6 and 20 of us meet every Thursday for a run on and around Hampstead Heath.

We have members of all ages and standards from complete beginners and those who take part only once or twice a year, up to international standard runners. New members and visitors are very welcome, so if you've just moved to London, are visiting, or just fancy trying running or orienteering, come and run with us. [And by the way, in case you're wondering about the spelling -  there was already a club called LOC (Lakeland Orienteering Club) when LOK was founded, and so we use the Swedish spelling!]

Frolics - Summer Orienteering Once again we have five Frolics events this summer. These are light-hearted events in which some experienced orienteers take part, running for their club (with a devilish handicap system), but the events are also ideal starter events if you have not tried orienteering before. The main 'Frolics' course is a ‘light green’ standard (moderately simple navigation) and there is a shorter 'yellow' standard course for the younger or  inexperienced competitor. The 5 events are organised by 5 different London-ish clubs and take place over 5 Sundays starting 29 June More details
GOLD for Britain Congratulations to the British men's relay team for an excellent (and nailbiting) win at the World Cup in Sweden. more
Summer Series These are informal events, ideal tasters if you are new to Orienteering with help and advice to get started. There are events across London over the summer organised by several clubs. Series Details

  • Thurs 5 June (18:45) - Hampstead Heath Small O  -  Results
Get Involved If you are interested in becoming a bit more involved in Orienteering, we can help. We can arrange help and advice at events if you are a newcomer. Or perhaps you have done a few events and would like to try your hand at planning or organising ? [The planner plans the courses whereas the Organiser makes the whole event happen]. Or perhaps you are handy with IT and fancy having a go at the Sportident side of events? If you are interested or if you would just like to know a bit more about what is involved, please email Glen Jones
Organiser Please For our Frolic (13 July) and the Hampstead Heath event (12 October) we need an Organiser. These are ideal events to try being an Organiser - not too demanding and we have experienced Organisers who will mentor and guide you through the whole process. Interested? please email Neil Brooks

Klubb orienteering events

The Klubb puts on about 6-8 events a year, on terrain ranging from London parks to the North Downs. We run an annual competition each summer known as FROLICS, which allows orienteers of all abilities to run against each other on a handicap basis. At the other end of the scale we staged a National Event on Leith Hill in 1993, and we helped to stage a day of the JK in 1999. We also helped at the JK 2008 on Leith Hill.

Permanent Orienteering Courses

Fancy trying orienteering by yourself? or perhaps turn a stroll with the kids into something more interesting? We have Permanent Orienteering Courses set up on Hampstead Heath and Trent Park. Just print the PDF's below (Printing Tip - ensure that your printer prints the map at 100% to ensure the scale is correct, because some printers automatically scale down to allow a margin)

If you want to use the map for a school or club event we are happy to supply maps (with pre-printed controls on waterproof paper) for a small charge. Klubb training

A group of us run every Thursday evening in Hampstead. We meet at the Royal Free Hospital Recreation Club (which includes changing and shower facilities) in Fleet Road (near corner of Pond Street, London NW3 2QG) at 6.30 p.m. for a 6.45 start. [ Click here to see a map of where we meet for training ] We run for about an hour and then repair to the Stag Pub afterwards for a drink (or 3). The Stag is on Fleet Road (200m from the Recreation Club). Summer is fabulous - running on Hampstead Heath. Winter we have to stick to roads a bit more, but we still run through parts of the Heath to breathe some (moderately) fresh air!. New members are always welcome, as are visitors, so if you're visiting London, or just fancy trying running or orienteering, come and run with us...
