Congratulations to LOK and SLOW who share the Frolics trophy this year

Race 5  -  SLOW  -  Wimbledon Common - another closely fought race with only seconds deciding the overall result! Full results for the Wimbledon event here

With LOK narrowly missing out on the 2nd place at Wimbledon which would have guaranteed them an overall series victory, the final result of the series is a tie for first place between LOK and SLOW. Frolics Co-ordinator for 2006 Greg Birdseye commented:

"As far as I remember we've never needed a tie breaker before. I suppose SLOW could argue that they haven't been beaten so they should retain the trophy (cf the Ashes?). But the best way to split SLOW and LOK on a tie break would surely be to look at the result over all five events which would make LOK the winners (Well, we would suggest that wouldn't we).
But the logic for best 4/5 was to allow some leeway for clubs not wanting to travel to the other side of London. As it turns out the top four or five clubs (one of which is always likely to be the overall winner) all managed a good turnout at all five events anyway."

Race 4 - MV - Horton Country Park - Continuing the pattern of home victories, MV took maximum points for the trophy, although by only a relatively small margin. SLOW ran them close, and with their home advantage coming up at the final event at Wimbledon Common the overall result is very much still in the balance.

In terms of individual scores, both MV and SLOW had three runners in the top ten on handicap, but MV’s strength in depth (and an excellent turnout of 18 runners in total) was enough to clinch victory on the day.

For the overall competition this year the rules have been slightly changed. Since there are five events in the series, aggregate points for each club are taken as the best three results from the first four events, plus the final one which must count in all cases. The idea was that each club can discard their worst event (often the result of a low turnout for an event that might be on the other side of London). Frolics results (individual) for Horton Country Park.

LOK are currently still in first place on best three out of four (and as it happens the new rule has had a relatively small effect on placings). With only four points separating the top five clubs it’s still all to play for.

Race 3 - LOK - Trent Park - The hottest day of the series so far saw a good turnout at Trent Park. A mix of fast open grassland and more technical areas in the north end of the map saw some close competition for places.

Continuing the story of tight results in the series, only a single point separated LOK and SLOW in the top two positions. These two clubs dominated on the day, each having four runners out of the top ten on handicap. Full results for Trent Park

Overall after three rounds, LOK have now consolidated their first place, although HH in second are still just ahead on cumulative individual scores. HAVOC have slipped back a little but MV and SLOW are now beginning to move up and both still have their ‘home’ events to come.

Race 2 - DFOK - Foots Cray - A largely open area last week saw some very fast times: the top five finishers before handicap were all inside 6 mins per km. Some people who had entered for the optional sprint extension then decided not to have a second go, having already just finished a sprint in the Frolic.

DFOK dominated the results on their home turf, with first and second place and 2 more in the first 10 on handicap. In second and third places on points, LOK and MV were almost inseparable - the positions determined by just a few seconds either way (very similar to round 1 when it was HAVOC and LOK that were neck-and-neck).  Full Results for DFOK Foots Cray race

Overall after two rounds, LOK have just edged into the lead (although interestingly HH in third place are well ahead on cumulative scores – a product of good turnout at Foots Cray even though it is almost exactly the other side of London for them – the sprint round the M25 was worth it obviously).
